This tournament will be held at Tom McCarthy's home at 1716 S. Mineral Springs Road in Durham, North Carolina. Here's a link to the location of the site. Parking is available in Tom's driveway. Please enter through the back of the house.
This is a self paired ratings tournament. Games may be rated or unrated, according to the wishes of the players, but if games are to be rated both players must have current AGA memberships. Please check your AGA membership status at www.usgo.org. AGA membership or renewal forms will be available at the tournament, but please enroll or renew online if possible.
This is a free tournament, with no entry fee. Lunch will be provided onsite by the host. Please indicate food choices as you complete the tournament registration form. The tournament will begin around 9:00 AM Saturday, November 25th, 2017, and will conclude when everyone goes home.
Preregistration is REQUESTED. Tom's home will accomodate up to 16 players, and he will need to know how many folks will be attending to arrange lunch. Registration will close after 16 folks have signed up. After successfully completing this online form you will receive an email message confirming your registration, so please enter your email address correctly. Your confirmation email will also contain contact phone numbers.
The tournament will follow AGA rules, with flexible time settings determined by the players. A suggested time period is 45 minutes main time with 5 30 second byo-yomis.
Current AGA members enter at their actual AGA ratings. Unrated entrants will be assigned a temporary rating after review by a strong player. Self-promotion is possible with the permission of the Tournament Director.
Handicaps for rated games will follow the formula used in the self-paired tournament at the US Go Congress based on difference of rating, e.g. 7.5 points komi for ratings difference of 0.6 or less, 0.5 points komi for difference of 0.6 to 1.5, 2 stones handicap for difference of 1.6 to 2.5, 3 stones for difference of 2.6 to 3.5, etc.
Tom keeps a number of cats in his house. If you have a feline allergy, you may want to skip this tournament.
